Chhattisgarh

Overview

Chhattisgarh has some of the largest population of tribal communities in the central Indian region, and is also covered with some of India’s richest deciduous forests.

Starting from Bastar district, ATREE has been actively involved in the CFRR claim-making and community forest rights management in Chhattisgarh state since 2021.

Training: We conduct training for village representatives, CSOs engaged in CFR issues, officers of the tribal and forest department and field staff on CFR claim-making, using GIS-based technologies for mapping, and preparing community-led forest management plans.

Geospatial Tech: Developing maps for potential CFRR areas in the state, along with provision of need-based WebGIS support to CSO network organizations.

Policy Outreach: We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tribal Department of Chhattisgarh state as facilitators for the improved recognition of CFRR and post-rights processes.

Research: Leading studies on NTFP dependence, challenges in NTFP marketing, and identifying ways in which livelihoods in CFRR villages can be improved.
