Training for TISS project staff on mapping community forest resource areas using mobile-based GPS apps

Dr. Shruti Mokashi, was invited as a resource person for training on use of mobile-based GPS apps for mapping community forest resource (CFR) areas. It was organized by Dr. Geetanjoy Sahu from School of Habitat Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai for the TISS CFR project staff in Maharashtra. The training was conducted in Thane district in Maharashtra from 16-18 January, 2024. The first day of the training was focussed on understanding CFR management and a simple plan template prepared by ATREE and TISS. The next 2 days were focused on mapping and map-making. Participants were taken to a village where they were trained in the use of mobile-based GPS apps using which they demarcated the traditional CFR area boundary of the village.
