National-Level Consultation on PESA Implementation at NIRDPR, Hyderabad

Anubhav Shori, ATREE District Coordinator (FRA), participated as a resource person in a national-level consultation on the implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA) at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad. He presented state-level experiences to national master trainers, sharing key insights on the implementation of PESA and the Forest Rights Act, 2006 (FRA), and highlighted major challenges, practical learnings, and field-level experiences from Bastar and Chhattisgarh.
During the workshop, he elaborated on the role of the Gram Sabha in exercising oversight and control over institutions and functionaries in the social sector. He also explained core PESA provisions relating to community ownership over natural resources, democratic decision-making processes, and the strengthening of local self-governance in Scheduled Areas.
