ATREE, in collaboration with MGSA, organized a two-day workshop on forest rights in Mandla and Dindori districts, Madhya Pradesh, on July 28-29, 2024. The workshop aimed to analyze the current status of forest rights and develop strategies for effective implementation and advocacy, facilitating knowledge exchange among local organizations, researchers, elected representatives, and community leaders. Participants included representatives from various organizations such as FES, PRADAN, WWF, and several local groups, as well as elected Panchayat members, lawyers, and activists. Key discussions focused on the significance of forest rights under the PESA Act, the national and state-level progress of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), and challenges faced by gramsabhas and organizations. The workshop concluded with the development of actionable strategies to enhance coordination among organizations and strengthen the recognition and implementation of forest rights in the region.
