Community Forest Resource Management Workshop, Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh
ATREE conducted a two-day Training Workshop on Community Forest Resource (CFR) Management in Ambikapur, Surguja District, Chhattisgarh, on March 21-22, 2024. As villages in several districts in central India move toward forest management, having received their CFR titles, ATREE continues to provide training for best practices, information on notable village success stories, and key learnings from common challenges faced during the process. The workshop was attended by 38 grassroots staff from Chaupal, Navrachna, and ATREE and focused on training organizations’ village-level mobilizers.
In the opening session, Dr Sharad Lele provided a background on the CFR rights provision of the FRA 2006, explaining the principles of livelihood development, equity, and sustainability entrenched in successful forest management. Dr Shruti Mokashi (ATREE Post-Doc) expanded on this by citing and explaining Panchgaon and Payvihir case studies through videos, showcasing key examples of management plans and practices undertaken by villages in the past.
