A training workshop on Community Forest Resource (CFR) Rights was organized by Centre for People’s Collective for CFR management committee (CFRMC) members of 13 villages. These villages are located in the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary region in Umarkhed taluka of Yavatmal district in Eastern Maharashtra. The 1-day workshop was preceded by a 2-day field visit to some of the villages. During the field visit, issues such as demarcation of the CFR boundary, confusion between revenue and forest compartment boundaries, wrong area recognized as CFR area etc. were discussed with villagers. Around 22 participants attended the training workshop on 22nd February. The workshop focussed on understanding the significance of CFR provisions, the rights and responsibilities of Gram Sabha and CFRMC, learning about post-CFR success stories, and the goals of CFR management.
