Workshop on Strengthening Community Forest Resource Management Plan in Bastar District

A one-day workshop and discussion were organized by the District Administration in Bastar to accelerate work on community forest resource (CFR) management.

The workshop commenced with an address by Tribal Commissioner Mr. G.R. Shori, who highlighted the significance of forest resource management and elaborated on various government initiatives in this direction. He emphasized linking management with convergence schemes to promote livelihood development.

Anubhav Shori, ATREE FRA Coordinator,  explained the post-CFR rights processes under the Forest Rights Act. He stated that Gram Sabhas must form Community Forest Resource Rights Committees and develop management plans that include ideas of conservation, sustainable use, and effective management of forest resources. He further stressed the necessity of integrating livelihood development with successful forest management.

Mr. Hariram Vyas, a master trainer from Bastar, shared insights into successful CFR management initiatives, highlighting the importance of financial management. He emphasized the need for transparency in utilizing funds provided by the government.

Representatives from various Gram Sabhas presented their ongoing initiatives and efforts towards forest resource management in their respective villages. The workshop was attended by representatives from Kalepal, Ghatakwali, Nagalsar, Tiriya, Gumalwada, Mundapal, Kondalur, Kandanar, Titri, Kakalgur, Dhudmaras, Bamanaras, Kamadev Kurushpal, and coordinators from ATREE, among others.

This workshop proved to be a significant step towards empowering Gram Sabhas and providing a robust path forward for sustainable community forest resource management in Bastar district.
