Community Forest Resource (CFR) Rights Training Workshop for CFRMC members in Umarkhed, Yavatmal, Maharashtra

A three-day training workshop on Community Forest Resource (CFR) Rights was jointly organized by ATREE and the Centre for People’s Collective (CPC) Nagpur, for members of CFR Management Committees (CFRMCs) from 12 villages situated in the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary area, Umarkhed taluka, Yavatmal district in Eastern Maharashtra. The sessions addressed key topics such as the distinction between revenue and forest compartment boundaries, verification of recognized CFR title areas, boundary demarcation, and the process of preparing CFR management plans. Discussions also covered the roles and responsibilities of the Gram Sabha and CFRMC, along with examples of successful post-CFR initiatives. The sessions were led by Dr. Sharad Lele and Dr. Shruti Mokashi.
Held from 15th to 17th December, the workshop also included a field exercise on 16th where participants learned to use the Aamcho CFR mapping application for boundary demarcation. Approximately 35 participants took part in the program. In addition, a separate training session was conducted on 18th for a few staff members of the Tribal Development Project Office in Pusad.
