Village meeting in Nagalsar for CFR management planning

Through our ATREE’s facilitation/ support, 56 villages had gotten their CFR management rights recognized from October 2021-2023 in Bastar district, Chhattisgarh. Our plan in Bastar was to focus on enabling communities that have received CFR titles to actually manage their forests for livelihood enhancement and forest conservation and restoration. We planned to assist a selected set of 7 villages (from those that have received CFR titles) as pilot villages in managing CFRs for forest conservation and livelihood enhancement. The strategy was to use the CFR Management Planning process as a catalyst to a) build community capacities to in turn b) identify and implement forest management activities, and c) identify and implement forest-based livelihood enhancement strategies.

We conducted the following activities in Bastar villages:

  • Formation of Community Forest Resource Management Committees
  • (CFRMC)
  • Basic training in CFRMC functioning for approx. 50 members
  • Routine Patrolling in traditional forest area
  • Basic Training and Documentary Screening about it
  • Started dialogue with the Forest Department and other relevant departments to explore livelihood opportunities.
